Forest Land Issues Related to Wind Energy

Mark you calendars now for the
2008 Allegheny SAF Summer Meeting
scheduled for July 16-18, 2008,
at
University of Pittsburg at Johnstown Campus, Johnstown, PA.

Look to the skyline, pick up the newspaper, and follow the political
campaigns, make no mistake alternative energy is here to stay. Pennsylvania’s
Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard has mandated that by the year
2020, 18% of the state’s energy needs must come from alternative
energy resources. Wind, water, solar and nuclear energy sources are
quickly becoming a fair portion of the state’s energy portfolio.

Many of the issues surrounding alternative energy are forefront in the
minds of politicians, educators, public land managers, environmental and natural
resource professionals as well as the common person.

As a group, public, industrial and private foresters and environmental and natural
resource professionals may cross paths with alternative energy in their careers.
Whether it be in prior planning, policy recommendations, contract or agreement
consulting or actual resource management, one of these forms of

The UPJ Living/Learning Center overnight guest rooms contain two twin beds,
private baths, are air conditioned and have cable television, telephone with
voice mail, and a microwave and refrigerator. An exercise room, game room and
laundry facility is located within the residential area of the center.
Enclosed walkways lead from the guest rooms to the meeting and dining areas.

For those wishing to stay at an off-campus hotel a block of rooms have been
reserved at the Sleep Inn and Comfort Inn, which are approximately 1½ miles
from the campus.
