Serving Forests and Foresters of PA WV NJ MD DE
The Allegheny SAF has a membership of 1,100 professional foresters in the five states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
Since 1900, the Society of American Foresters has provided access to information and networking opportunities to prepare members for the challenges and the changes that face natural resource professionals.

The Allegheny SAF Summer Meeting scheduled for September 16-18, 2020, in the Milford, PA area has been canceled.
Due to the ongoing circumstances surrounding COVID-19, the Pinchot Chapter in collaboration with the Allegheny SAF Executive Committee has elected to cancel this year's planned Summer Meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENT: For the purpose of COVID-19 safety measures, the WV SAF Division has decided to postpone the WVSAF meeting planned for April 1-2 until undetermined a future date. That date will be posted here as soon as that decision has been made.
Please plan to join us for the 2020 Winter Conference! The Rothrock Chapter of the Allegheny Society of American Foresters invites you to attend the Allegheny Society of American Foresters – 2020 Winter Conference from February 26‐28 in Boalsburg, PA.

Working Better in the Woods will be the theme for the Maryland Delaware SAF Autumn meeting to be held on November 5, 2019, at King’s Landing Park in Huntingtown MD.

The Western Gateway Chapter will be hosting the Allegheny Division Annual Summer Meeting on August 21 - 23, 2019. The theme is “Restoring Scarred Landscapes and Preserving a Hallow Site”.

To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the establishment of the Fernow Experimental Forest on the Monongahela National Forest, the public is invited on a public tour. Please meet at the equipment sheds (see map below) on Forest Road 701 on Saturday May 4th at 1 pm to begin the tour. Stops will include visits to weir ponds to hear about watershed research conducted on the forest, a 1 mile walk along the Zero Grade trail to see the longest running forestry study on the forest, and hands-on demonstrations of forestry tools. The formal tour will end around 4 pm with cake to celebrate the anniversary.

The Maryland/Delaware SAF Division will hold their 2019 Spring training event on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Cylburn Arboretum, 4915 Greenspring Ave, Baltimore MD 21209. The title of this training is: Urban Wood, Not Waste: Urban Wood Utilization in Baltimore.
Note: There will be an optional tour of a wood utilization deconstruction site immediately after the main session (3pm).

The federal government shutdown is now on Day 32 (as of 2019.01.22) and surely impacting some of our members. If they use their work emails to receive messages from SAF, they cannot access those emails at this time.
If you are a member or know of a member who needs assistance - food, heat, other assistance, please contact your chapter or division chair or Allegheny SAF Executive Committee.
If you know of a member who wants to attend the Winter Meeting, but is not receiving the emails about registration, please forward them through another channel. If there are furloughed members who want to attend the Winter Meeting and need help with registration, lodging or transportation - please reach out to your chapter or division chairs or the Executive Committee.

Allegheny SAF Executive Committee
The Allegheny SAF Winter Training will be hosted by the West Virginia Chapter on February 20-22, 2019. The theme is “Evolving Forestry”. Cheat Lake and Morgantown WV is an area with many recreational opportunities with the Lakeview Resort as a wonderful venue for the meeting. It provides easy access to the membership from all the member states as well as being central to many West Virginia attractions including Coopers Rock State Park, Cheat River, Cheat Lake and West Virginia University.

Sponsorship info: Businesses and members can help support this training by becoming a sponsor. The Cover Letter (pdf) can provide an introduction to our organization and the event.
